What a great conference! Over 1,800 PK and Kindergarten teachers from across the state of IL and all over the country! I was honored to be a part of it and to help these great educators think more deeply about Guided Reading and Writer’s Workshop on Day 1.
Day 2 we were in the land of Social and Emotional Development and some Tech Tools for Educators!
If you came to see me- comment and share something you learned! I will send you a FREEBIE!

One of the many things I learned from your great workshop is that I do NOT have to match the texts to a theme!
Melissa Leach says
Hi Aimee! You do NOT have to match the texts at the GR table to a theme! AMEN! Can you send me an email address you'd like me to mail your freebie to? Thanks!

Melissa…I really enjoyed your workshop on differentiating guided reading. I like the idea of not having my center in the rotation schedule. Instead I can pull reading groups as I need them from other centers they are working at in the room. The sample schedule you provided was also very helpful. Thank you!
Melissa Leach says
Hello! Yes! Take yourself out of the rotation for centers and it frees you up for more dynamic Guided Reading! Give me your email address and I will send you your FREEBIE!

I attended your Nurturing Social and Emotional Growth workshop. It was great! One of the many things that stuck with me from your workshop is that when addressing a child's behavior begin the sentences with "You" and not "I" so you are putting the child at the center and not yourself.

Hi Anna! I love your take-away from the Social and Emotional session! That's a good one! Send me your email address and I'll send you that FREEBIE!

Melissa, I really enjoyed your differentiating guided reading workshop. I learned not to put my center in the rotation schedule (which made it really tricky to make a schedule), just pull reading groups as needed from other centers. I also found the sample schedule to be very helpful as well. Thank you!

Hi Melissa, I'm about a month late, but wanted to say that I attended your guided reading workshop at the ILASCD conference in Shaumburg last month. My take away was to not do "round robin" reading, but to have each student read the entire book through and provide support as they read. I have implemented this since returning from the conference and it has been great. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful knowledge!

Melissa, I loved the writer's workshop session at ILASCD! I learned that it always helps to have the student in author's chair to be someone I've conferences with already that day! Thanks,
