An Academic Leadership Team (ALT) consists of Principals, Assistant Principals, Coaches, Instructional Specialists and other campus leadership roles. Included in the ALT work are also key stakeholders at the district office to include Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, Curriculum Directors, ELAR Coordinators, ELAR Specialists, and employees from the Bilingual Department as well as Special Education.
These leaders must share one common vision of literacy instruction for all classrooms and all children that are served by teachers across the district. Leach Literacy recognizes that not all campus leaders were first literacy teachers, so we are here to help. Our services instill an urgency for best practice literacy instruction while also showcasing what instruction should look like while providing action steps for how to be a literacy leader back on their campus. Vision Setting Discussions
A lot can be accomplished by simply making literacy and best practice literacy instruction a conversation among key stakeholders at individual campuses, but also across campuses in a district. For some members of the ALT team this discussion is a turning point in helping them realize their new role as an instructional leader of literacy.
Content Area Training
Holding teachers accountable for best practice instruction requires an ALT team to personally know what best practice instruction should entail. While they may not teach students in classrooms, they are leading teachers and that becomes far easier when teachers know their leader has a shared literacy understanding.
Walk-Through Calibration
Like an apprentice learning their craft, new literacy leaders will need to learn under the direction of an expert. Calibrating the teaching in classrooms as an ALT, empowers instructional leaders of literacy to feel confident in their abilities to walk-through classrooms and provide thoughtful and well-informed literacy feedback to teachers.
Document Creation
